If you are a fan of diving, you probably realize that diving is only half the equation. That is, you don't always want to travel down to the bottom of the deep blue sea. You need to reach the surface or float somewhere in the middle. Actually, you may be having a little trouble reaching the bottom. Well, you don't have to worry because the same apparatus that help you reach the surface also allows you to sink beneath the waves. This apparatus is the Buoyancy Compensator (BCD) and, as its name implies, it helps divers control their buoyancy. Again, a BCD is essentially the device that helps a diver maintain their desired buoyancy level. This is because the suit and equipment the diver wears will always at the mercy of the diver's mass and weight as well as the water. In some cases, a diver would drop like a stone once entering the water. In other instances, the diver would not be able to dive very far without being forced back to the surface of the water. As such, the buoyancy compensator can be utilized to make sure the diver is always where he or she wants to be. How this is achieved is relatively simple. Namely, the vest of the BCD is filled with air bags. A hose runs from the BCD to the oxygen tank. With the simple press of a button on the BCD, air can fill the bags. This will create more buoyancy which will allow the diver to return to the surface. Of course, allowing some of the air to escape will allow the diver to descend easier. The ability to control buoyancy adds a lot of fun to a diving adventure. If the diver constantly had to struggle to do ascend or descend then the dive would lose much of its appeal. Actually, it would not even be much of a dive. It would a series of struggling swims that were little more than an endurance test. In addition to allowing the process to be fun, a buoyancy compensator allows your diving experience to be safe. When you are in control of how you move in the water, you can maintain your safety levels. Also, if you need to take care of a less experienced diving buddy, you can do so without any additional problems. Of course, you will need to select the right buoyancy compensator. You will want that fits properly and has a solid reputation in the market. Sticking with the top name brands is often a wise choice since these brands became the top names for a reason. If you are unsure as to which BCD to purchase, you could always consult with a sales rep online or in person. They will be glad to match you with a BCD that suits your needs. Also, while functionality should always be a top concern, it doesn't hurt to be fashionable as well. And, yes, there are a number of very stylish looking BCDs out there. So, why not invest in one of them? You will surely be the envy of everyone on the dive!
